Mountaineer injured by detachment of stones, saved on the Stella horn

(ANSA) – CUNEO, 26 JUL – A mountaineer injured in the head by a discharge of stones, while climbing the Stella horn, a peak in the province of Cuneo (Municipality of Valdieri). The alarm went off this morning, Tuesday 26 July, just before 1pm, when a group of four expert mountaineers, committed to climbing Via Campia, were overwhelmed by a detachment of stones: one of them was hit in the head, with head trauma and lacerocontused wound. The comrades asked for help and the Piedmontese mountain and speleological rescue helicopter, given the complexity of the operations, took off from Caselle an additional technician to support the team: so the two rescuers, together with the doctor, were disembarked with a winch on the plateau at the top of the mountain and, abseiling, they reached the wounded man.

After stabilizing the injured person, they boarded him with the winch directly from the wall where he was, together with the doctor. The two mountain rescue technicians then descended to the base of the wall, checking that the 3 companions had descended safely. The operation ended around 3 pm, the injured was taken to the hospital in Cuneo for treatment. (HANDLE).
