About twenty associations and trade unions took to the streets, starting with CGIL, CISL and UIL. The student network also participated in the event. Flags and some banners to say “enough violence” and ask for justice. An 18-year-old girl holds a billboard with a big heart in the middle, which reads “Be good all year round and not just at Christmas” and asks to “put an end to racism and indifference”.
“This initiative was born with the intention of bringing the values of the community, solidarity and hospitality back to the center”, Daniel Taddei, the general secretary of the CGIL of the province of Macerata, told ANSA, adding: “We are a network of associations and trade union organizations that deal daily with the problems of poverty, immigration and the excluded. Today – he underlines – we bring a broad reflection on a society that rejects rather than welcomes “. Recalling Alika’s death, the CGIL secretary says that “it is really impossible to understand how it is possible to pour so much blind anger on a person, to express contempt for human life in such a brutal, barbaric gesture; it is absurd to think that a a chance encounter on a sidewalk, in the city center, can trigger such violence, consumed under the astonished eyes of many who have witnessed and fixed in images what happened, but without being able to make any gesture that could avoid it “.
