Naval blockade, Salvini:

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 08 AUG – A place has not yet been found in a Rems for Alejandro Augusto Stephan Meran, the man accused of killing the two police officers Matteo Demenego and Pierluigi Rotta, during a shooting at the Trieste police headquarters on 4 October 2019. About three months after the sentence with which the Court of Assizes of Trieste deemed him not attributable and therefore acquitted with the application of a detention security measure for hospitalization in a Residence for the execution of security measures for the minimum duration of 30 years, the man is still detained in the Verona Montorio prison.

An “illegitimate” detention was issued by the Chief Prosecutor of Trieste Antonio De Nicolo who nevertheless assumed the responsibility of writing to the penitentiary asking that “the release should take place only in conjunction with the transfer of Meran to a Rems”. “Although the sentence did not expressly foresee it, given the social dangerousness of the subject – explains De Nicolo – it is necessary to have a contemporaneity between exit from prison and entry into Rems”, one of the structures that, according to law 81 in 2014, they replaced judicial psychiatric hospitals. To resolve the stalemate, the Prosecutor also interested the Ministry in the matter, asking that, given the exceptional danger of the subject, a place be found in a structure equipped with adequate containment measures. The structure could therefore also be located outside the region. (HANDLE).
