(ANSA) – IMPERIA, 12 AUGUST – A hundred people took part in the penitential procession this morning organized by Alessandro Ferrua, parish priest of the basilica of San Giovanni, in Imperia, with the intention of asking for the gift of rain. At 7 o’clock the faithful left the church for a short walk around the neighborhood. In Largo Ghiglia the blessing was held with the Crucifix at the four cardinal points. The procession then returned to the basilica, around 8, for the recitation of the rosary “so that the dead of our parish may intercede for us”, said Don Ferrua.

A gesture of courage that of the parish priest, given the mockery as well as attestations of hatred shown on social media at the news of the event. “It hasn’t rained well for eight months now, apart from a few sporadic storms – continues the parish priest -.

Water is scarce and the countryside is suffering. For this reason I wanted to promote this moment of prayer and penance, so that we can obtain the gift of rain and a more forgiving season. “The parish priest has thus decided to dust off an ancient propitiatory tradition, that of rogations, for the success of sowing, and of “a refreshing rain”.
