Holocaust commemoration: Never again should people be told not to live according to their own identity

What a day – what a turning point. If understood correctly. Because society hasn’t heard it like this before, and it was time to express it in a Holocaust commemoration: that the “poison of the NS image of people and families” has continued to have an effect for far too long.

For gay men, lesbian women, bisexual, trans and inter people, the “Third Reich” was by no means over after it came to an end. A scandal, actually, even back then.

Today we know better. Let’s act on it! Doing shows wanting.

Just imagine: In 1964, a 17-year-old was convicted under Section 175 of the Criminal Code because of love for another man. And was considered a criminal record until five years ago! Because of a paragraph that had been tightened by the Nazis in 1935. This is what happened to Klaus Schirdewahn, who spoke about it in the Bundestag. It could finally be said before the representatives of the people.

Especially against this gloomy background, it is important to throw one, two, many spotlights on history, the stories of all those who were persecuted. To reconcile and give back as much as possible of the dignity that has been taken from all those affected. And over the years and years…

From now on, all groups of victims, mind you, from the time of National Socialism should be remembered. “Valuable” – to pick up the terrible category of those years of dehumanization – they all are. To emphasize that, only that is of enduring value.

Feelings, way of life, identity, essence – a “never again” applies to this too. Never again should anyone be denied to live by it.

Diversity is not just the order of the day or of hours of thought. Living it, paving the way through society through daily activities, is becoming more and more a sign of an enlightened civil society.

And an act of practical common sense to boot. Because it is developing rapidly in this direction, the more people everywhere know about each other. Translated, this means: globalization is unthinkable without diversity.
