‘Duce duce’ and Roman salute, storm over Bergamo school principal

Bad weather, Nello Musumeci:

(ANSA) – BERGAMO, OCTOBER 29 – Storm over the dean of the aeronautical institute Locatelli in Bergamo due to a video in which, at the end of his speech to the students, choirs are heard from the boys who praise the leader to whom he responds with a gesture that looks like a Roman salute. The episode dates back to Monday morning and the video was posted today on the Wired website.

In the images, recorded with a mobile phone, we see the school principal Giuseppe Di Giminiani, 66, at the end of a greeting to the graduates in the courtyard of the secondary school, on his birthday. Some students acclaim Di Giminiani with the cry “duce, duce”. And the headmaster responds with a gesture that can be interpreted as a Roman greeting. Following the episode, on Wednesday evening the Bergamo Antifascist collective protested outside the Bergamo institute, where they also displayed a banner with the inscription: ‘History has condemned you – fascist students and headmaster, we sgamati you’.

Through his lawyer, the lawyer Emiliano D’Andrea, the principal denied any malicious interpretation of the incident and called for “avoiding exploitation”.
