Green pass and state of emergency, the hypothesis of an extension

With a significant increase in cases of positivity from week to week and with the new vaccinations now stalled, Green pass and a state of emergency, with the third dose, the bulwarks remain to stem the possible new wave. The contagion curve continues to grow, recording a doubling of positivity within three weeks.

On average, explains physicist Giorgio Sestili, there is an average increase of 1.35 cases per day, equal to 35% more than the previous week. Numbers similar to those of September and October a year ago – when Italy discovered the ‘color zones’ and the semi-lockdown – and which, inevitably, are destined to rise during the winter when, moreover, it will be necessary to make you also count with the flu. But, Sestili underlines, the increase, which began in October throughout Europe, in Italy is mitigated by vaccines “for this reason our epidemiological situation is among the best”.

Also not to lose the advantage of good vaccination coverage the executive is considering an extension of the Green pass, at least until March and, at the same time, the extension of the state of emergency, with which to confirm the commissioner structure, security protocols, such as spacing and masks, smart working and all those rules and facilities connected to the pandemic emergency.

The winter that is upon us could still be the “last battle” to win the war against the virus, as the virologist of the University of Milan, Fabrizio Pregliasco, said today. “Unless – he points out – a more courageous variant arrives”. In the meantime, however, it will be necessary to try to convince the audience of skeptics, including a slice of almost three million over 50s, to access the vaccination campaign in order to reach 90% of vaccinated people as soon as possible. An objective that has always been in the sights of the government and the emergency commissioner, Francesco Figliuolo. At the same time, then, we work on the third dose.

Once the administration for the “frail”, over 80s and health workers has been completed, it will be the turn of the extension of the booster for the sixty-year-olds and teachers. School workers, in particular, could enjoy a preferential lane, while respecting the six months from the second dose. The first to solicit the third recall for the professor was the same minister Patrizio Bianchi and the undersecretary of health, Pierpaolo Sileri, reiterated it, who then reassured about the upcoming holidays. “We will live a free Christmas”, he explained, specifying, however, that for now there is no talk of lightening or even abolishing the Green pass. Meanwhile, Aifa will meet to decide not only for the green light to the third dose for the under 60s but also to indicate which vaccine to use as a booster for the one and a half million Italians that Johnson & Johnson has made.
