(ANSA) – VENTIMIGLIA, 03 NOV – The night patrol service for security in Ventimiglia has made its debut.

Committed local and private police agents, led by the mayor Gaetano Scullino (independent of the center-right area), who in recent days, with as many ordinances, declared “zero tolerance” to alcohol abuse, bivouacs and city degradation, phenomena such as the latter largely linked to migratory flows. The checks, which take place from 8 pm to 2 am, are carried out in the “hottest” areas of the city center: the station, the market area and via Hanbury in the first place. An undocumented foreigner was taken to the police station for identification, several bottles of alcohol were seized and some groups of foreigners were turned away to avoid crowds.

“The goal is to ensure a greater perception of security for citizens – said Scullino -. Citizens are exhausted by this situation. We patrol, but we have also taken steps to give a humanitarian response to those who really need it, with the setting up of a temporary transit center. Soon we will have a meeting with Prefect Armando Nanei and with the Head of the Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration of the Ministry of the Interior, Prefect Michele Di Bari “. On the location of the center, Scullino explains: “We have three sites in mind, but he will choose the prefect. These are decentralized areas, towards the border with France. Private places that we have already spoken to the owners, now we await the decision”.
