The Carabinieri of the Bari Investigative Unit carried out a precautionary custody order in prison (for one under house arrest), issued by the GIP of the Court of the Apulian capital, at the request of this Public Prosecutor’s Office, against five persons held responsible, four, of “induction, aiding and abetting and exploitation of prostitution to the detriment of drug addicts” and the fifth of “detention for the purpose of drug trafficking”.
The investigations, coordinated by this Public Prosecutor’s Office, arise from the disappearance report presented, in November last year, by the mother of a student, in her early twenties, who had told the Carabinieri that she feared for the safety of her daughter and that she was worried that she might have been forced into prostitution by unsavory people with whom she was accompanying herself. The next day, however, the searches had been dissolved, because the daughter had contacted her mother, reassuring her that everything was fine.
But the woman’s story had remained impressed on the soldiers of the Arma who wanted to see clearly on the real conditions of the young woman. The alarm signal, which confirmed the fears of the mother, occurred in December, when the Carabinieri of the Bari Radiomobile Nucleus saw the girl in company near the railway station of Bari, aboard a parked car. of a young man. The latter reported that he met her after replying to a dating announcement posted on a web platform and, in order to be able to seclude with her for an hour and a half, that he paid the sum of 120 euros to a man. At this point, under the direction of this Public Prosecutor’s Office, the investigations started, conducted by the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri through stalking, technical activities and collection of witness statements.
It emerged that one of the suspects, 25 years old, taking advantage of the feelings that the young woman felt towards him, would have reduced her in a state of subjection and, living with her, would have induced her to prostitute herself in various locations in the provinces of Bari, Bat and Brindisi. The investigations documented that the young man had published on a web platform several advertisements aimed at procuring customers for “his girlfriend”, with whom he made direct agreements on the modalities of time, place and the price of the service. From what emerged from the investigative activity, the young man personally managed these earnings that he used for his own needs as a drug addict, leaving the girl, also with drug problems, without food, so as to push her to further benefits in order to guarantee the buying food and getting her into prostitution even late at night. This state of affairs continued for months, even when it was discovered that the young woman had become pregnant.
