(ANSA) – CALTANISSETTA, 05 NOV – The Court of Assizes of Appeal of Caltanissetta confirmed the 30-year prison sentence for Filippo Marraro, accused of the murder of his ex-wife, Loredana Calì, on 1 April 2019 in Catenanuova (Enna). Marraro was judged with the abbreviated procedure. The judges ruled out the aggravating circumstance of cruelty. The accusation in the courtroom was represented by the Deputy Attorney General Fabiola Furnari. The defendant and his wife, who had two children, had split up before the crime and the husband had never resigned himself to separation. Marraro was very jealous and blamed the woman for a series of extramarital affairs. During the defense, the defendant’s lawyer also referred to the honor killing by claiming that the man had killed out of jealousy. On the day of the murder, the accused, threatening her with a gun, forced the woman to get into the car to the couple’s country house. According to investigators, the victim would have knelt to ask for mercy, but the man would have fired and killed her. Marraro also had a history of beating his first wife. The man was constituted after the crime. For the Court of Assizes of Appeal, therefore, the accused was fully capable of understanding and of wanting at the time of the facts. The defense had challenged the first degree sentence also asking for the expulsion from the civil parties of the associations “Co.Tu.Le Vi” and of the association “Women together” of Sandra Crescimanno.
The court has instead admitted them. The other plaintiffs – the victim’s sister and brother – were represented by the lawyer Luigi Spinello and the lawyer Egidio La Malfa.
