How to clean a washing machine from scale and unpleasant smell: three life hacks

During operation, the washing machine accumulates limescale from hard water, small pieces of fabric fibers and detergent residues on the mechanism parts. If you wash frequently at a low temperature, bacteria and fungi can grow in such a raid, due to which an unpleasant smell begins to appear from the drum.

Fortunately, the problems of scale, pollution and smell from the washer can be solved in one fell swoop. GLOBAL HAPPENINGS talks about three home remedies to help with this. Inexpensive and affordable ingredients are useful for everyone.

soda with vinegar

These two substances, reacting, destroy lime deposits and disinfect the parts of the washer. To get them to interact properly, you need to take a quarter cup of dry soda and dilute it with the same amount of water. This liquid is sent to the detergent tray. Vinegar is poured directly into the drum – we are talking about white vinegar or ordinary table vinegar at a concentration of 9%. You will need two cups of the product. Next, start the wash cycle without things. Select the longest program and the highest temperature. When the cycle is completed, the machine must be thoroughly ventilated to remove the remaining vinegar smell.

Lemon acid

This substance is the basis of many factory washing machine care products. If you use food acid, it will be much cheaper, and the effect will be similar. To clean the car, you need to take from 1 to 6 packs of dry citric acid – depending on the degree of contamination. The product is poured into the detergent tray and the machine is run on an empty wash with a long cycle and high temperature.

Bleach

Chlorine-containing bleach will do a better job of disinfecting the machine mechanism. Although the lime will clean well enough. Depending on how dirty the device is, it is necessary to pour up to 1 liter of the product into the drum. Next, the machine is started on the longest wash cycle with a high temperature. And before rinsing put the wash on pause. The machine filled with water and bleach should “soak” for one hour, after which the cycle is restored. When the flush is completed, the washer will need to be rinsed to remove chlorine residue. To do this, it is once again launched idle, but already in a short program and at a temperature of 30 degrees.

How to prevent washing machine problems

Such cleaning of the washing machine is recommended to be done 2-3 times a year. Also, to prevent the accumulation of dirt inside the device, you must follow simple rules.

  • Do not exceed the dosage of detergent. Foam can settle in the mechanism and lead to the development of bacteria and mold.
  • Soak clothes before washing if they are heavily soiled. So you will reduce the use of powder or gel in the machine. In addition, this approach to caring for things is more caring.
  • Leave the machine door and detergent drawer after washing. So excess moisture will evaporate. Namely, in a humid environment, bacteria and mold develop.

Previously, GLOBAL HAPPENINGS told what things should not be washed in a machine on a fast mode and why.
