What holiday is celebrated on June 8: many mosquitoes portend on this day

On June 8, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the Apostle Karp. He has long been considered the patron saint of fishermen, so the people said that Karpov always has a rich catch every day. Our ancestors also noticed that many mosquitoes on this day are a sign that predicts a warm and fruitful summer.

Name days are celebrated by Alexandra, George, Ivana, Karpa, Makara, Markiyana and Elena. Read about the traditions and beliefs of this day in the material GLOBAL HAPPENINGS.

Memorial Day of the Holy Apostle Karp

The Holy Apostle Carp was one of the seventy apostles. For many years he preached in Thrace, spreading the faith of Christ among the pagans. Karp was also a bishop on the island of Crete. It is still unknown how and when the apostle died – there are several versions of his death.

People’s prohibitions

It has long been said that the Karpovs should not clean the day in the house after sunset – this can bring illness and trouble.

Also, according to popular beliefs, it is better not to go on long journeys and not to move to a new house on this day.

As with any church holiday, you should not quarrel, do evil, insult and refuse to help those in need.

Weather signs

Carp is called the patron saint of fishermen, so at dawn on this day it has long been customary to go to the pond to fish. If the fish swims up to the shore and seems to “jump” out of the water, it will often rain in June.

Komari on this day is a good omen: it predicts a better sunny summer.

If a lot of horses jump on the field, the summer will be warm, but very rainy.

Frogs can warn about wet weather and even flooding. People used to say: if frogs croak loudly at the Karpov’s day, it’s worth waiting for the rains.

Earlier, GLOBAL HAPPENINGS told what caused the change in the church calendar and when Ukrainians will now celebrate Christmas and the Intercession.
