To restore confidence after Wagnergate, the Ukrainian authorities should invite Western allies to investigate. This was stated by the fifth president of Ukraine, leader of the Eurosolidarity party Poroshenko in Halifax, the press service of the politician reports.

“The scandal surrounding the disrupted special operation to detain the militants of the Russian PMC Wagner deepens the distrust of Western partners in the Ukrainian authorities. And this tone is felt in communication. To restore trust in the authorities, representatives of Ukraine’s allies should be involved in an objective investigation,” Poroshenko said.

According to him, for the first time since the pandemic, more than three hundred influential people of the world have gathered in Halifax for the first time since the pandemic, who intend to strengthen democracy, freedom, protection of human rights and global security. And of course, more representation of Ukraine was required.

“Interest in Ukraine is great. We have received many requests for meetings. European representatives, oddly enough, are very well informed about Bellingcat’s investigation of the Wagnerites. Unfortunately, today this topic is already present in Halifax. This has the effect of eroding trust in Ukraine. on the part of our partners, because since the age of 14 we have been gaining confidence in the Ukrainian intelligence service, in the Ukrainian Armed Forces with great efforts, “he said.

According to Poroshenko, the Ukrainian authorities will now have to take several initiatives to re-establish trust.

“Some partners did not rule out that there could be a joint investigation with the participation of our foreign partners of the leak of completely secret information,” he said.

What is known about the detention of the “Wagnerites”

  • On July 29, 2020, a group of 32 people flew to Minsk in transit to go further. All this was planned as part of a special operation by the Security Service of Ukraine. According to this version, the plane with the “Wagnerites” was to be urgently landed in Kiev to detain the mercenaries.
  • Zelensky said that he had nothing to do with disrupting the special operation to detain Russian mercenaries from the Wagner PMC, and said how he told President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko about the arrival of militants in his country.

On November 17, Bellingcat published a report on the reasons for the disruption of the special operation to detain Russian mercenaries from the Wagner PMC in Belarus.

The report is based on dozens of interviews – including with mercenaries who were sure that they were flying on a “business trip” to Venezuela, not knowing that their plane was going to land unplannedly in Kiev, and with former employees of the Ukrainian special services who took part in the preparation of this operations.
