(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 28 NOV – Perhaps he thought he was driving a train, or more precisely the famous Opicina tram, so he tried to walk along the tracks of the latter convoy. The vehicle he was driving, however, did not exactly have the characteristics of the tram, being a Mercedes A170, therefore, after about twenty meters, the car got stuck on the rails. The driver, however, was lucky: from via Romagna, where he entered the tracks, a steep slope begins, where the tram turns into a funicular thanks to an ingenious cogwheel device, just to tackle the steep climb ( or steep descent).
The fire brigade intervened with mobile cranes and other means, managing not without difficulty to bring the car back from the railway site to the most suitable asphalt.
The Opicina tram has been undergoing repairs for some years after a frontal accident between two cars, which also has legal consequences. (HANDLE).
