The German newspaper Bild, which published a plan for the likely invasion of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine, indicated the old name of Lvov – Lemberg. This was the name of the city in 1772-1918, when it was the capital of the Austrian province – the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria.

At the same time, the name of Lviv dates back to the times of Kievan Rus. After all, the city was named after the son of King Daniel of Galician in the 13th century.

And the name Lemberg officially appeared during the reign of the Habsburgs – one of the most powerful dynasties of monarchs in Europe at that time. Then even the official administrative language in Lviv was German.

During the Middle Ages, some Polish documents refer to the city as Leopolis or Leopolis.

At the same time, it cannot be said that the name Lemberg appeared in the 18th century. In fact, the original name, which was somewhat different – Lamburg – is found in the documents of the Polish kings.

Historians state that since the formation of the city of Leo, the influence of the German community has been noted.

This may explain why the German newspaper Bild indicated the “Austrian name” of the city of Lion. At the same time, judging by the map, one can understand that the newspaper’s readers are not very well versed in the Ukrainian issue. In particular, we are talking about geography. Indeed, for convenience, the authors of the material even indicated Ukraine on the world map, obviously, so that it would be clear where Lvov, Kiev and other Ukrainian cities in Europe are.

We will remind that earlier, two influential Western media at once – the American edition of The Washington Post and the German newspaper Bild – published a likely plan of an attack by Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine. So, according to the map, the media suggest an invasion from the Crimea, CADLO and even the territory of Belarus. According to the same data, Russia may be planning an attack with the help of tank divisions, airborne troops, and is even ready to use warships in the Black Sea to land on the coast of the Odessa region.
