An intense disturbance, of Atlantic origin, will bring a new widespread worsening of weather conditions from the early hours of tomorrow, Thursday 3 October, with rain and thunderstorms across much of the central-northern part of the country, subsequently extending to part of the south. Furthermore, ventilation will tend to strengthen, in the second part of the day, in the upper Adriatic, Apennine areas and Sardinia, contributing to a sharp drop in temperatures.
Based on available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved – who are responsible for activating civil protection systems in the territories concerned – issued a severe weather warning. Weather phenomena, impacting different areas of the country, could lead to hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on Department website.
The warning predicts widespread rainfall, including showers or thunderstorms, from the early hours of Thursday 3 October Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche, Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo and Molise, especially western sectors, subsequently extended to Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Campania. These phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind.
On the basis of the foreseen and ongoing phenomena, it was evaluated for Thursday 3 October, orange alert on part of Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Marche and on the entire territory of Umbria. Yellow alert on some sectors of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche and Abruzzo, on the entire territory of Lazio, Molise, Campania and Puglia and on part of Sardinia and Basilicata.
Schools will remain closed in Ancona and in many municipalities in the Marche region and also in Terni in Umbria.
In Tuscany, particularly in the province of Livorno, no lessons even in PiombinoCampiglia Marittima, Suvereto, Rosignano Marittimo, Bibbona, Collesalvetti, and on Elba in the municipalities of Portoferraio, Campo nell’Elba, Porto Azzurro, Marciana Marina. In the Grosseto area, schools were also closed in Massa Marittima, Gavorrano and Roccastrada. In the Pisan area, the same provision was made in Montescudaio, Guardistallo and Casale Marittimo.

All work on the construction sites of the most urgent matters continued unabated the most fragile banks are being covered with tarpaulins. The entire Civil Protection system has also been activated and the number of companies ready to intervene in case of need has been strengthened, as well as the Reclamation Consortia which are emptying the canals for preventive purposes.
These are some of the prevention measures implemented by the Emilia-Romagna Region in view of the new bad weather alert – orange – for thunderstorms and landslides for tomorrow 3 October. The Rescue Coordination Center of the province of Ravenna met in the early afternoon. RFI was asked to monitor the bridges under its responsibility. Particular attention is paid to the hamlet of Traversara di Bagnacavallo (Ravenna), heavily hit by the latest wave of bad weather.
