Maria Filippi, 92 (she would have turned 93 on 13 December) and Severino “Rino” Panizzi, 92, originally from the Argentina Valley, knew each other since they were children. “They were 6 years old – says the niece Roberta Parodi – when they met and had been married for 69 years: they had spent their lives in the countryside”. “Theirs is a beautiful story, in an era of emotional consumerism”, underline the grandchildren Manuela and Denise Panizzi, Marco and Roberta Parodi. “Maria has dedicated her whole life to Severino and even in the last months that her grandfather had cognitive problems, she has always supported him in silence”. Severino died on Monday evening at 10 pm, but Maria knew nothing because since her husband suffered from insomnia, she spent the nights in the house of relatives a few meters away from their home. “On Tuesday morning she didn’t ask for anything about him and didn’t want to go home, as if she understood. We left her alone and after exactly 24 hours she died too. We would like this story to be a message of hope for all couples.
