Uber: 100 riders civil parties in Milan trial for manager

(ANSA) – MILAN, DECEMBER 17 – About a hundred riders are admitted as plaintiffs, for any damages, in the Milanese trial against the Uber manager (suspended) Gloria Bresciani accused of illegal hiring following the investigation by prosecutor Paolo Storari who had also led to the commissioner, on May 29, 2020, of the Italian branch of Uber.

Judicial administration revoked last March by the judges of the Prevention Measures Section after the recognition of the “virtuous” path undertaken by the company.

Today in the second hearing of the trial, after having asked to enter a total of over 60 riders during the preliminary hearing and then at the beginning of the ongoing trial, 35 other messengers presented themselves as civil parties, who make food deliveries to domicile. And, represented by a series of lawyers including the lawyer Giulia Druette, they were all admitted by the judge of the ninth criminal law Mariolina Panasiti. About twenty were also present in the courtroom this morning, while a garrison with about fifty workers took place outside the Palazzo di Giustizia in Milan.

As emerged from the investigation by the economic-financial police unit of the Milanese Gdf, the riders were “paid at a piece rate of 3 euros”, “robbed” of tips and “punished” with a deduction of fees if they did not comply with the rules. Next hearing of the trial on February 25th. On 15 October in the shortened trial, the gup Teresa De Pascale, in addition to condemning Giuseppe Moltini, one of the managers of the brokerage companies involved in the investigation, had also decided to convert the seizure of about 500 thousand euros in cash into a compensation of 10 thousand euros to head for the 44 messengers civil parties and 20 thousand euros for the CGIL, other civil party.
