Ex-People’s Deputy Yevgeny Muraev denied claims that Russia plans to make him the head of a pro-Russian occupation administration after the capture of Ukraine.

He stated this in a comment to Ukrayinska Pravda.

“This is some kind of stupidity. I have been banned from entering Russia for four years now. If I had assets in Russia, they would be frozen, although I never had anything there. You can look at the program I outlined – we have different vision of the country’s development. Therefore, it is difficult to imagine that I had any kind of communication with the Russians. I believe that the information that we now see is unprofessional”, – he said

Muraev added that he hopes for an apology from the British Foreign Office, which disseminated this information.

“Method of special services”

International expert Dmitry Levus commented on Muraev’s statements on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel, saying how he can be a pro-Russian candidate for the Kremlin if Russia imposed sanctions on him in 2018.

“This is one of the methods of the Russian special services, known since the days of the KGB, when they even put agents in jail so that later he, allegedly a representative of the “dissident movement”, could go to the West and be an authority. Here (with Muraev’s sanctions. – Ed.) cover operation that was done in 2018 and now it has manifested itself”, said the expert.

What did the UK say?

The British Foreign Office says it has exposed a conspiracy to install a pro-Russian puppet regime in Ukraine led by former MP Yevgeny Muraev.

“We have information indicating that the Russian authorities are seeking to install a pro-Russian leader in Kiev as they consider the invasion and occupation of Ukraine. Former Ukrainian MP Evgeny Muraev is being considered as a potential candidate.”, the agency said in a statement.

The British also named the names of four more Ukrainian politicians who, according to their statement, are associated with Russian intelligence, which is preparing an attack on Ukraine. They are Andrey Klyuev, Serhiy Arbuzov, Volodymyr Sivkovich and Mykola Azarov.

US confirmation

The United States confirmed the statement of the British Foreign Office. A CNN source with access to British and US intelligence said the US has the same evidence of a Russian conspiracy as the UK.

This includes things like setting up a friendly government and using their spy agencies to stir up dissent.”, the source said.

Also, information about the presence of such evidence was confirmed by another source of the channel.

Russia denies

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation called the statement of the British colleagues disinformation and provocative activities. The ministry said that it is the NATO countries that are involved in the escalation of tension around Ukraine.

“We call on the British Foreign Office to stop provocative activities, stop spreading nonsense and concentrate on studying the history of the Tatar-Mongol yoke,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
