In Carpi the municipal council does not approve the resolution presented by the mayor Alberto Bellelli (Pd) and so, 98 years after the conferment, the honorary citizenship of Benito Mussolini remains. In the ‘parliament’ of the city in the province of Modena there were 16 votes in favor, it would have taken one more to make the revocation possible. The news was given by the Gazzetta di Modena.

The councilors of Lega, Fratelli d’Italia, Movimento Cinque Stelle and Carpi Futura left the classroom talking about a resolution “out of time and instrumental in the days of the Liberation” and always from the minority benches there are those who asked the mayor to deal with current problems and not with “issues of 1924” highlighting how Carpi remains an anti-fascist city regardless of citizenship. After almost three hours of debate, therefore, Benito Mussolini remains an honorary citizen of the city of Carpi.
