Government: Renzi, Draghi said the priorities and let’s go to the encore

“O Draghi bis o voto”, claims the leader of Italia Viva, Matteo Renzi, who much prefers the first option. Interviewed by the ‘Corriere’, the former prime minister affirms that “what is important is that Draghi stays in Palazzo Chigi. And that he comes to the Chamber without making negotiations in the style of the First Republic or five-party summits: he must make a list, take it or leave it”. At that point “I want to see who takes responsibility for breaking it all up”.
In the meantime, Italia Viva’s petition for the Draghi bis has exceeded 80,000 signatures. “The petition made a bang”, says Renzi, for whom it is “a result that seemed impossible even to us”.
But “the encore is done if Draghi wants to do it, under the conditions that Draghi says”, Renzi explains. In the event that he reiterates his No, it would be difficult for the leader of Italia Viva to form another executive. “I wonder who can vote for such a government,” he says. “I am for the Draghi bis with a jolt of decision-making and responsibility on the part of the premier – he adds -. If he doesn’t feel like it, and I would be very sorry, let’s go to the vote immediately”.
Another certainty for Renzi is the antagonism with the 5-star Movement. “It is enough for me that in the next elections we and the Grillini will be on opposite sides”, he declares. “I have lost all interest in the internal dynamics of the Five Stars – he says, commenting on the possible new split in the Movement -. I hope it is clear to everyone how their presence has polluted the civil debate of Italian politics. They lied, they insulted, they attacked the opponents. And now, worried about going home, they split up once a week “.
The Democratic Party, however, would like to remain in government with the five stars. “Is the Democratic Party still subordinate to Conte and Grillo? But that’s enough, come on – comments Renzi -. Still chasing the very strong progressive point of reference? I don’t believe it, I can’t believe it”.
