Salvini at the Pontida rally, kermesse at the start with Lega leaders and mayors

The leader of the League, Matteo Salvini has arrived in Pontida for the traditional gathering of his party, which returns to the village of Bergamo after a stop of two editions due to Covid. Hugs, kisses and selfies for Matteo Salvini who, having arrived in Pontida in jeans and a blue linen shirt, is greeting the front rows of the Northern League rally. The lawn is filling up and in the front row the flags of ‘Lega Salvini premier’ and the lion of Venice are waving, as well as a Tricolor in the center, at the top of an auction that has several banners on top of each other. This is the scenario, for now, of the party demonstration which has returned to the Bergamo municipality after three years of absence. There is no shortage of flags with Alberto da Giussano and those of Trinacria and the Quattro Mori, and the traditional writing ‘Pontida 2022’ in green, which is between the stage and the demonstrators. Among the activists, many with blue and yellow caps with the words ‘Credo in Matteo’. Same slogan that can be read on a blue shirt, which has the words ’25 September’ on the back. After Matteo Salvini’s brief greeting on stage, the 2022 edition of Pontida was kicked off by the former mayor of Amatrice, Sergio Pirozzi and now head of the League’s Civil Protection department. Followed by Luca Toccalini who leads the party’s youth department and then by the mayor of Montecatini Terme, Luca Baroncini. Introducing the guests on stage, the voice of the historic speaker of the meeting and outgoing deputy, Daniele Belotti.

“You are spectacular, this is the smile of the people of the League. Sorry for the delay but there are still miles of queue of buses and cars that are arriving. But now we have to start. Since we had been missing for three years, on this lawn there is the desire of freedom, struggle, work, future “. The leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, said this as he greeted the militants of the party from the stage in Pontida, starting the party rally.
Then he recalled the Northern League volunteers and militants who are no longer there, even with the traditional tribute to the tree of life planted on the side of the stage. And she said: “I think it is right to remember the many people who are not there and who follow our battles from up there”.
