“Neither me nor Germany threatened”: Scholz talks about Putin phone calls and arms deal with Selenskyj

According to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), there is an agreement with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the weapons supplied from the West may only be used on Ukrainian territory and not on Russian territory.

“There is a consensus on that,” Scholz replied to a question from “Bild am Sonntag”.

Scholz rejected the statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that German tanks would again threaten Russia with the delivery of Leopard 2 tanks:

Putin’s words “are among a series of abstruse historical comparisons he uses to justify his attack on Ukraine,” the chancellor told the newspaper.

So far, Putin has not made any threats against Germany, Scholz said.

He “neither threatened me nor Germany. In our phone calls, our very different points of view (…) become very clear. I am making it very clear to Putin that Russia has sole responsibility for the war,” Scholz said.

Britain’s ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson previously said Putin threatened him with a missile attack over the phone. (AFP)
