470,000 unemployed have received Hartz IV since 2005

More than every sixth Hartz IV recipient has been receiving state aid for at least a decade. This emerges from the response from the Ministry of Labor to a request from the AfD parliamentary group.

Accordingly, there are currently around 5.32 million beneficiaries. More than every fifth person affected (around 1.19 million) has been in the system for less than a year – but around 924,000 have been in the system for ten years or more.

Around 467,000 people have received Hartz IV since it was introduced in 2005. In the long term, slightly more women than men are affected.

“Hartz IV is a poverty trap that has to be overcome,” emphasized the AfD labor politician René Springer. He campaigned for a comprehensive promotion of further training and better opportunities for additional income. “Taking up a job must be worthwhile again,” explained Springer.

According to statistics, more than two million people made it out of Hartz IV last year – but one in five of them had to apply for state aid again within the first three months. (dpa)
