The spokesman for the parliamentary left in the SPD, Tim Klüssendorf, is to become the new general secretary of his party. The party leaders Saskia Esken and Lars Klingbeil proposed him in the committees meetings, according to information from the German Press Agency. This is to be the next step in the announced reorganization of the party. The Presidium accepted the proposal unanimously. Klüssendorf is to be elected at the party congress at the end of June and now the preparations in the Willy-Brandt-Haus will already take over as group leader after the election of Matthias Miersch.
Klüssendorf is a political vertical starter. The 33-year-old from Lübeck moved to the Bundestag for the first time in 2021. There he quickly rose to one of the spokesman for the SPD Links. In 2022, the studied folk and business administrator developed a concept for a one-off asset tax, with which he also made a name for himself at the SPD federal party conference.
In the Bundestag election this year, Klüssendorf defended his direct mandate in Lübeck as the top candidate of the SPD Schleswig-Holstein. According to his own statement, he wants to bring a breath of fresh air to the Bundestag and shape a new, transparent political style.
Klüssendorf made his master’s degree in business administration in Hamburg in 2018. He joined the SPD in 2007. From 2010 to 2012 he was Juso boss in his hometown Lübeck. From 2013 to 2018 he was a member of the Lübeck citizenship. After that, he was a personal speaker of the Mayor of Lübeck Jan Lindenau (SPD) for three years.
