The new Federal Minister of Health Nina Warken (CDU) sees the increasing consumption of medical cannabis “clearly abuse” and wants to proceed.
“Cannabis is a noise drug and can endanger young people and young adults in particular,” said Warken of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. “Therefore, I would like to limit the online prescriptions that are easily accessible.”
It was very easy to get a prescription online. In a checklist, someone can tick which symptoms they or he allegedly have and get an online recipe.
“It is logical that this substance is probably a better quality than on the street and a fixed price, and it doesn’t come from an illegal drug dealer,” Warken admitted.
“However, the medical scannabis is not intended for normal consumption, but only for people who need health due to serious illnesses,” emphasized the minister. “For me, there is clearly abuse behind the numbers.”

The CDU politician spoke of a “disturbing” strong increase and referred to new figures from the Federal Institute for Medicines and Medical Devices (BFARM).
According to the Bfarm, the consumption of medical cannabis has “tripled from 31 to 100 tons since April 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year”.
In their coalition agreement, the Union and SPD agreed to evaluate the legalization of cannabis in autumn. According to the FAZ, Warken still wants to wait. (EPD, AFP)
