“Questionnaires alone are not enough”: Söder calls for a quick return to compulsory military service – and an “Iron Dome”

The CSU increases the pressure on the coalition partner SPD to quickly catch up with a return to compulsory conscription. “”There can be no ban on speech and decision and decision on the subject of conscription. The question yes or no of a compulsory compulsory is forced from the outside, ”said CSU boss Markus Söder after a party executive meeting in Munich.

More soldiers need more soldiers, which is why the CSU is clearly for conscription. “”Compulsory conscription and community service are the future. Just sending questionnaires would not be enough. ” The challenge is greater than ever.

Söder calls for “clear language” in dealing with Russia

In their coalition agreement, the Union and the SPD actually agreed on a military service “which initially is based on voluntariness”. But SPD defense minister Boris Pistorius has recently announced that he also wants to incorporate mechanisms for a possible return of compulsory military service in his upcoming bill for a more attractive military service.

Söder demanded that the Bundeswehr armed forces had to be “set up” – and and once again spoke out for a comprehensive rocket defense system: “This includes technology, an Iron Dome, by the way, not only for Berlin, as some have demanded, but for all of Germany.”

Söder also called for a “clear language” to Russia with sanctions – and at the same time demanded extensive support from Ukraine. The CSU chairman emphasized that arms deliveries are still necessary.

At the same time, in the name of the CSU, Söder stood on Iranian nuclear facilities without any if and but behind the US air strikes. The air strikes were inevitable. “Iran is and remains the biggest threat in the Middle East.”

In addition, solidarity with Israel is also shown: “Out of conviction of common values, a conviction of a common challenge from history and out of conviction that Israel needs support.” (dpa)
