Grenoble mayor Eric Piolle declares himself a presidential candidate, via the environmentalist primary

His candidacy was awaited. Grenoble EELV mayor Eric Piolle announced this Tuesday, June 29, on France-Bleu Isère, that he would participate in the environmentalist primary in the fall in order to nominate the party’s candidate for the 2022 presidential election.

“A new page opens for me, which will launch us collectively, because there too it is a collective, which will launch us towards the primary of environmentalists in September”, Eric Piolle told local radio. He promises to “Continue to travel around France to listen, share and meet”.

“Go to meet the French”

He sets himself three axes to build his project: “The economy is my DNA, I worked for twenty years in industry; working-class neighborhoods and rural areas; food, housing, questions of lived experience ”, and assures wanting « meet the French who are not going on vacation this summer ”.

In the environmentalist primary, he will have to face Sandrine Rousseau, for the moment the only other declared candidate. Other personalities should be announced in the coming weeks, such as Yannick Jadot or Delphine Batho.
