In fact, the commemorations and messages of condolence from all over Europe for the former president of the Strasbourg Assembly did not stop. The meeting of the ambassadors of the EU member countries (Coreper) observed a minute of silence to remember him while the EU Council paid homage to him with a clip that contains the “best moments” of Sassoli as president. And from the US, the US State Department wanted to underline the “voice for democracy and human rights” that Sassoli represented while vice president Kamala Harris in a tweet recalled him as “a great European committed to the ideals of democracy”.

Tomorrow the state funeral approved by the Council of Ministers will put a seal on the emotion of the whole of Europe for the disappearance of the former face of Tg1. The funeral will be held at the Basilica of S. Maria degli Angeli, in Piazza della Repubblica, and the mass will be celebrated by the cardinal and archbishop of Bologna Matteo Zuppi.
