(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 04 – The day after tomorrow, at the Foro Italico in Rome, the WeSportUp accelerator for sport and wellness-health startups will be born. The technological campus will be opened and the operational team presented in a totally renovated space inside the Foro Italico Park.
The initiative aims to bridge the national gap in investments in innovation in sport – which globally in the last 5 years has exceeded 27.5 billion – aggregating the main players of the national and international ecosystem in the perspective of open innovation: startups and scaleup, sports associations and organizations, industry leaders, specialized universities and investors. WeSportUp, promoted by Sport e salute SpA and by the Accelerators Fund of CDP Venture Capital, will involve, in 3 years, through a public call, about 30 sportstech and wellnesstech startups – both national and international interested in development in Italy – and will contribute to providing further support financial to the most deserving realities together with third party investors already interested in the project.
The management of the program is entrusted to Startupbootcamp – the first accelerator in Europe with 1,200 companies in its portfolio and with the management of 2 sportstech accelerators in Australia and Qatar – alongside Wylab as a national partner, which has been a pioneer in the creation of incubation, development and investment programs in sports startups and protagonist of the most important exit of an Italian startup in the sport-tech field with Wyscout. The 2022 edition of WeSportUp will last 10 months and will start with a 4-month scouting phase with the aim of looking for the most interesting realities that develop technological solutions for sport and well-being. The research will culminate in the Selection Day, the day in which the 10 startups that will participate in the acceleration phase will be selected, a period of 13 weeks that represents the highlight of the program.
