(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 10 – Mariupol, Irpin, Bucha and all the other “heroic” cities of Ukraine: with those names on their backs, printed on the orange jerseys, the Shakhtar Donetsk players played yesterday the first friendly match of the ‘ peace tour ‘, against Olympic Piraeus. On the stands of the Athens stadium, 176 toys had been placed on empty seats in memory of the children killed in the war unleashed by the invasion of Russia. “No war” was written on the chest of Roberto De Zerbi’s players. “Before the match I spoke to my teammates – said the captain, Taras Stepanenko – remembering what happens in Ukraine. After, many were in tears from the emotion”. The match ended 1-0 for Olympiacos, the proceeds will be donated to the families of war victims. The next friendly match will be on Thursday 14th against Legia Gdansk, then on 19th in Istanbul against Fenerbahce, and on 1st May in Split against Hajduk. (HANDLE).
