Luc Tardif becomes the new President of the World Ice Hockey Federation

Franz Reindl lost the battle for chairmanship of the World Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The new IIHF president is the Frenchman Luc Tardif, who comes from Canada and who had previously been treasurer of the world association for many years. The 68-year-old succeeds René Fasel. The 71-year-old Swiss resigned after 27 years in office.

With 67:39 votes, Tardif won the final vote for the highest position in international ice hockey on Saturday. A total of five candidates stood for election. In the first of the four voting rounds, Reindl and Tardif were still tied with 29 votes each.

The former national player Reindl can remain in office as President of the German Ice Hockey Federation for the time being. However, Reindl no longer wants to run for the regular election of the presidium next year. In addition to the long-standing DEB functionary, Berthold Wipfler, who is responsible for finances, will also leave the company. So far it is unclear how things will proceed structurally and personally at the DEB. (dpa)
