(ANSA) – SAN TEODORO, APRIL 28 – An amateur cyclist, Rosario Poli, 64 from Monza, died in San Teodoro (Sassari) at the end of the morning following an illness accused while participating in the fifth stage of the Giro di Sardegna, race reserved for agonists and amateurs which is taking place these days in Gallura.
The cyclist of the Cus Pro Patria Milano team felt ill while the race was passing near Straulus, a hamlet of San Teodoro, when the arrival in Budoni was just a few kilometers away. Immediately rescued, the 64-year-old did not make it and has ceased to live in the hands of the 118 doctors. “We address the condolences of the whole community to the cyclist’s family”, comments the mayor of Budoni, Giuseppe Porcheddu, distraught. “His death is a tragedy that affects us all, at a time when we were preparing for a return to normal after two years of suffering”. The Giro di Sardegna event will continue tomorrow with the last stage, but award ceremonies and other side events will take place in a lesser tone. (HANDLE).
