(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 05 – “After so many years, the Government has accepted a request shared by the whole world of professional sport”. This was stated by the president of Lega Serie A, Lorenzo Casini, after the approval of the aid decree by the Council of Ministers. “I thank Undersecretary Valentina Vezzali for having immediately understood the need and urgency to intervene – says Casini – and I thank her and the Government for having listened to us: finally, the commercialization of audiovisual rights abroad can take place without restrictions or limits, facilitating the increase in revenues. A very important innovation that aligns Italy, and the Serie A League, with what is happening in other countries of the world “.
To explain the words of President Casini, it is worth emphasizing that this evening the Council of Ministers approved the aid decree-law, in which some changes were made to the Melandri Decree of 2008, with particular regard to the international market for audiovisual rights of sports competitions. Some restrictions have been removed which, over the years, have severely limited the marketing of rights abroad, such as the maximum three-year duration or certain procedural obligations. Thanks to this measure, it will be easier for professional leagues and competition organizers to negotiate audiovisual rights in other countries. In the case of Serie A, the higher revenues will also benefit the entire football system, according to the principle of general mutuality already in force. (HANDLE).
