The Champions League changes from the 2024-2025 season. The UEFA Executive Committee has definitively approved the new competition format. Thus the Champions League becomes a mini-championship of 8 days and 36 teams, instead of the 32 who play the first phase today, playing six rounds. The four extra places will be assigned as follows: one to the third-placed club in the league in fifth place (currently France), another, explains UEFA, “to a winner of the championship, increasing the number of teams that qualify through the so-called Champions path “. The last two places will go to the associations that achieved the best collective result in the previous season (total number of points divided by the number of participating teams). Using the current season as an example, the two federations that would have an extra place in the Champions League based on the collective results of their clubs would be England and the Netherlands.
