(ANSA) – PARIS, MAY 24 – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, best world ranking, reached fifth place in February 2012, at the age of 37 he played the last match of his career, in which he was beaten in the first round of Roland-Garros from Norwegian Casper Ruud (# 8) with scores of 6-7 (6/8), 7-6 (7/4), 6-2, 7-6 (7/0).
Despite the unconditional and noisy support of the public, despite resistance sometimes worthy of his heyday, Tsonga – injured in his right shoulder right at the end of the game and in tears at the match point – retires from the ATP circuit after 17 and a half years. Ruud, for his part, will face the Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori (n.61), who in turn defeated another Frenchman, Ugo Humbert.
However, the Frenchman left the world stage with a great performance: 3h49 ‘of show, with flashes of the Tsonga of the past. A more than honorable exit from the scene. (HANDLE).
