(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 26 – Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone was arrested at Viracopos airport in Campinas after being found in possession of an illegally detained gun while boarding a private plane bound for Switzerland.
Local police said they found an undocumented LW Seecamp. 32 pistol in the luggage of Ecclestone, 91, during an X-ray screening. Ecclestone acknowledged that he owns the pistol, but said he was unaware it was in the his baggage at that time. After paying the bail, he was released to continue his journey.
Ecclestone, who spent 40 years driving Formula 1 before stepping down in 2017, is married to Brazil-born Fabiana Ecclestone. (HANDLE).
