(ANSA) – BERLIN, 08 JUN – Alexander Zverev underwent surgery for the rupture of the ligaments in his right ankle after his painful exit from the semifinals of Roland-Garros. The German, world number three, was injured in the match against Rafael Nadal last week, leaving the field on crutches. Zverev, 25, hasn’t said when he’ll be back on the pitch, but he should miss Wimbledon, which starts on June 27.
“We all have our own path in life. This is part of mine,” he wrote to his 1.8 million Instagram followers, along with a photo of him waving from a hospital bed. “Next week I will reach the top of my career as world number two, but this morning I had to undergo surgery. After further examination in Germany, we received confirmation that the three lateral ligaments in my right ankle were torn – he explained – To return to the competition as quickly as possible, to ensure proper healing of all ligaments and to regain total stability of the ankle, surgery was the best choice “.
