Sailing: Argentario Sailing; there is also Scud of ‘Mister Luna Rossa’

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 14 – The international appointment for classic and vintage sailing yachts is back in Porto Santo Stefano (Grosseto). Organized by the Yacht Club Santo Stefano, and by the Municipality of Monte Argentario, the 21 / a Argentario Sailing Week will take place from Sunday to Sunday 19 June. 36 boats from 8 countries will be registered, 14 of which are participating for the first time. For sailing enthusiasts this is an unmissable opportunity to admire 117 years of sailing history up close. For the crews, the four days of regattas represent the opportunity to challenge each other at sea with Giglio, Montecristo and Talamone in the background. For the first time at Argentario Sailing Week, in the Vintage Class, it will be possible to admire the splendid Scud of Patrizio Bertelli, designed by Herreshoff in 1903, completely restored and with the Brazilian champion Torben Grael at the tactics; Recruit, designed by German Frers in 1944 with the entire Frers family on board; Sumurun named after an oriental dancer (William Fife William III-1914); La Spina, the first Italian 12 m SI (sail number I1) designed by Vincenzo Baglietto and launched in 1929. The classics see the debut of the Italian Navy’s Artica II (1956-Illingworth & Laurent); Grifone of the Italian Navy, on which the admiral and sailing hero Agostino Straulino (1963) also raced in the past; Crivizza designed by Alan Buchanan (1966).

In the Swan Class they will participate for the first time in the Argentario Sailing Week 2022 Dream (1976), Outrageous (1979) and Tikka III (1970), all designed by Sparkman & Stevens. There are also three competitors in the Spirit of Tradition class, the yachts that will race for the first time in the waters of the Argentario: Albelimar III, designed by Carlo Sciarrelli in 1977, Midva, armed by David Besana (Ron Holland – 1982) and Golfo Mistico launched in 2020, designed by Giovanni Ceccarelli and commissioned by the owner Aldo Ferruzzi.
