Celli wins the European Amateur Championship

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 25 – The European Amateur Championship goes to Filippo Celli who in Valencia, Spain and with a total of 280 (64 74 73 69, -8) hits, imposed himself on the Danish Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, 2 / o with 281 (-7). In the Top 10 also another blue, Pietro Bovari, seventh with 285 (-3) and leader in the middle of the race. Thanks to this statement, Celli will be able to play, from 14 to 17 July in Scotland, the 150th edition of The Open – the fourth men’s Major of 2022 – alongside all the best golfers in the world.

In the European championship for amateurs, it is the fourth success for Italy after those signed in 1992 by Massimo Scarpa, in 2015 by Stefano Mazzoli and in 2016 by Luca Cianchetti. With the exploit of Celli, who arrived on the course of the Parador Campo de Golf El Saler (par 72), the blue poker is served. Celli, from Rome, 22 years old in September, got off to a great start finishing the first round in the lead. In the second he was overtaken by Bovari but in the third the Capitoline regained command of the leaderboard. And in the final 18 holes (partial of 69, -3), after an initial bogey, he signed five birdies (with another bogey at 16), decisive. Another success in the international field for young Italian amateurs, which comes after the one signed, last June 16 – in Sweden and at the Annika Invitational Europe – by Francesca Fiorellini. Even in that case she was a Roman and always a standard bearer of the Olgiata Golf Club, to celebrate the feat. (HANDLE).
