Athletics: 60 marathons a year, former marshal at 1,000

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, 11 JUL – To anyone who crosses him during a marathon, asking him for information on the race, he replies: “I don’t know, it’s the first I do”. But it is not the first, he has run a thousand between marathons and ultramarathons. Lorenzo Gemma, born in 1954, retired Air Force marshal, Apulian origins and a resident of Forlì, is celebrating the milestone of his 1,000 marathons these days, among the very few in Italy.

Gemma has achieved this important result in Livigno, at the end of three marathons disputed in three days, a summer event organized by the Club Supermarathon Italia, an association that welcomes runners who have more than 100 marathons or ultra in their ‘running curriculum’ and of which he is also vice president.

Lorenzo Gemma is well known among the amateurs of the so-called ‘long people’ as well as for his sympathy, also for the slogans he enunciates during the races (among which, “the victims are counted only at the end of the battle”, or, loudly “wake up, we sleep here!” often causing hilarity among his running mates).

Each year it plays over 60 races, many of which take place seamlessly, day after day.

Since she retired Gemma not only runs, but is also very active in volunteering, carrying out daily tasks on behalf of the Forlì Civil Protection. (HANDLE).
