(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 22 – Charles Leclerc with Ferrari was the fastest in the first free practice session of the French GP, 12th round of the Formula 1 World Championship. Castellet was the only one to drop below 1’34 ”, closing the best lap in 1’33 ” 930. Second time for Max Verstappen with Red Bull (+91 thousandths) and third for the other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz (+338).
The gap suffered by the other drivers is enormous, given that the fourth best time, set by George Russell with Mercedes, is almost a second higher than that of Leclerc (+951). Next in the list are Pierree Gasly (AlphaTauri, + 1”049), Sergio Perez (Red Bull, + 1”244), Lando Norris (McLaren, + 1”302), Alexander Albon (Williams, +1 ” 484). The ninth time was scored by Nyck De Vries, who in the first free practices he replaced Lewis Hamilton on the Mercedes (+ 1 ” 496) and the tenth by Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren, + 1 ” 730).
Meanwhile, the FIA has announced that Sainz will be penalized by ten positions on the grid for changing the ECU (the third) on his Ferrari, but the team could decide to replace Sainz’s entire power unit, relegating him to last place. (HANDLE).
