Arrived at the “Old New House”: Alba beat Halle for the first time in the Sömmeringhalle

In the end everything fell into place. Alba Berlin beat the MBC Halle Lions 68 to 55 and celebrated their double success in the Sömmeringhalle. When Laina Snyder threw the last three of the evening shortly before the end of the game, there was great cheering and the spectators celebrated exuberantly. The players also hugged each other.

The game started bumpy. After a successful early phase by Alba, the tide turned and the opponents got into the game well. They quickly had Alba under control and were able to extend a deserved lead. In a very intense game, the guests clearly dominated the first three quarters. In the meantime, the Alba women were eleven points behind.

But the setting helped the team come back. When the Alba team defended, loud “defense” calls could be heard, they won a ball, there was clapping and cheering, and when the team threw a basket, it got really loud in the Sömmeringhalle.

After a long deficit, Alba managed to come back thanks to the fans. And after a particularly strong final quarter with 25:8 points, they even managed to turn the game around.

“The first three quarters of the game were very bumpy for us. In the end, the hall helped us turn the game with its positivity,” says captain Lena Gohlisch. “There was a lot of excitement and we had respect for what was going to happen today. When we then saw how many people were standing there to watch us, we felt great success”.

1,546 guests – that’s the number that the commentator announced over the loudspeaker shortly before the end of the game. Almost twice as many spectators as expected came to watch the Alba women’s game. The capacity of the hall is 2,500 spectators. The Alba men’s team began its Bundesliga history here 30 years ago.

From now on, the hall in Berlin-Charlottenburg is the new home venue for the Alba women’s team. The team previously played their home games in an adjoining hall of the Max-Schmeling-Halle. At the end of the evening it was done: the fans filled the new home venue and shot the game. An all-round successful evening for Alba with good prospects for the current season. After this evening they definitely arrived in the “old new house”.
