50,000 Swiss francs fine for Croatia, 20,000 for Serbia

Fifa has sanctioned the Football Federations of Croatia and Serbia respectively with a fine of 50,000 and 20,000 Swiss francs (about 50,674 and 20,270 euros). In the sights of the international federation, the insults uttered by Croatian fans against Milan Borjan, the goalkeeper of Canada of Serbian origin

The Football Federations of Croatia and Serbia have been fined 50,000 and 20,000 Swiss francs respectively (about 50,674 and 20,270 euros) from Fifa, whose disciplinary committee met Wednesday in Doha. The International Federation had opened disciplinary proceedings against the Croatian body because of insults uttered by supporters against Milan Borjan, the goalkeeper of Canada of Serbian origin, during their meeting (4-1) at the World Cup in Qatar, November 27.

Milan Borjan, a Croatian-born Serb, fled the country during the 1991-95 conflict as a child. The Croatian supporters had also held up banners with equally insulting content.

Two fines imposed on the Saudi Federation

Fifa had done the same against the Serbian Federation because of the flag placing Kosovo in Serbia exhibited in the locker room of “Orlovi” before their match lost against Brazil (2-0), on November 24.

In addition, two fines of 15,000 Swiss francs (15,195 euros) were imposed on the Saudi Federation for the misconduct of its team during the matches against Argentina on November 22 and Mexico on November 30 (six yellow cards received in total ).
