The authoritative German newspaper Bild has published the names of Russian athletes who will not be able to participate in international tournaments in the near future. These athletes are subject to a new International Olympic Committee (IOC) ban.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that those athletes from the Russian Federation who actively supported the war in Ukraine, as well as those associated with the security forces of the aggressor country, not be allowed under the neutral flag.
- Swimmer Yevgeny Rylov. At a pro-government rally on March 8, 2022, the world swimming champion walked onto the stage wearing a Z symbol, for which he was suspended from major competitions for nine months.
- Hockey player Alexander Ovechkin. The NHL star is a longtime fan of Vladimir Putin. In 2018, he became Putin’s confidant and helped him win the election. Ovechkin is also known as the founder of the Putin Team movement.
- Skier Veronika Stepanova. Last April, the athlete, speaking at an official event in the Kremlin, said: “Putin is on the right track, and we will definitely win, as we won at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.”
- Gymnast Nikita Nagorny. On social media, the Olympic champion supported the Russian invasion and invited his followers to send packages to the Russian military.
- Wrestler Musa Evloev. Winner of the gold medal of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and part-time – lieutenant of the Russian army.
