Ukraine for the first time in the history of performances at Rioland Garros in the fourth round will be represented by two tennis players at once. Lesya Tsurenko and Elina Svitolina continue to play at the French Open with a prize fund of 49.6 million euros.
On Saturday, June 3, the third racket of Ukraine Lesya Tsurenko (No. 66 WTA) won an enchanting victory in the 1/16 finals, defeating Bianca Andreescu (No. 42 WTA).
The 34-year-old from Kiev dealt with the 22-year-old Canadian for a little over an hour, never submitting right through – 6:1, 6:1. For Tsurenko, this will be the fourth entry to this stage of the Grand Slam tournament.
On June 2, Svitolina defeated Russian Anna Blinkova in three sets – 2:6, 6:2, 7:5.
Tsurenko in the 1/8 finals on June 5 will play against Iga Sventek (Poland). The first racket of the world in the third round defeated the Chinese Xin Yu Wang in two sets, without giving her a single game (6:0, 6:0).
Svitolina on June 4 will fight against the best Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina. Beginning at 15:15 Kyiv time.
