(ANSA) – ROME, NOV 10 – Two blues on the field today in the second round of the “Stockholm Open”, an ATP 250 tournament with a prize pool of 635,750 euros that is being played on the fast indoor “Kungliga Tennishallen” in the capital of Sweden .
The first to take the field is Andrea Vavassori: the 26-year-old from Turin, n.289 in the ranking, after passing the qualifications (where he canceled 3 match-points to the Serbian Milojevic, n.137 ATP and third seed, and then he remounted the Croatian Serdarusic, n.234 ATP and fifth seeded), and having won his first match in an ATP main draw thanks to the success on the Russian Pavel Kotov, n.271 of the ranking, also qualified, must contend with the Canadian Denis Shapovalov, n.18 in the ranking and 3 in the seeding as well as reigning champion. There is no precedent between the two.
In the late afternoon it’s instead the turn of Jannik Sinner, first seed of the tournament: the 20 year old from Sesto Pusteria, n.10 in the ranking and now certain of the ninth position in the “Race to Turin” (he will be reserved for the ATP Finals) after the forfeit of Norrie in the Swedish tournament, made her debut directly in the second round against the British Andy Murray, n.143 in the ranking, on the draw thanks to a wild card. Also in this case it is an unprecedented challenge.
The South Tyrolean precedes in seeding the Canadians Felix Auger Aliassime, n.11 ATP, and Denis Shapovalov, n.18 ATP, who in 2019 in Stockholm won his first – and so far only – ATP trophy (last year the tournament was was canceled due to the pandemic), and the British Daniel Evans, n.26 ATP: for all four he entered the race directly in the second round.
