Champion of Ukraine in rowing and participant of the 2011 Junior World Championship Andriy Kirichenko died in the war with Russian invaders in the Donetsk direction, the Ukrainian Rowing Federation reports on Facebook. The titled athlete from the first days of a full-scale invasion joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, receiving the call sign Kerya.
In 2003 Andrey graduated from the Dneprodzerzhinsk Metallurgical College. During 2003-2004, he did military service. From 2005 to 2014, he worked at the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Dnipropetrovsk region, for a long time – at the Dnieper Metallurgical Plant.
He was survived by his wife, two sons and a sister.
The tragedy occurred on July 15, but the death of the hero became known only the day before.
The deceased soldier was 40 years old. He left behind a wife and three children. Both sons followed in their father’s footsteps and are also involved in rowing.
The farewell took place in Andrey’s homeland, in Kamenskoye.
