Preparation for the Nations League: Germany’s volleyball players are playing in Potsdam for the first time

Premiere for Potsdam: For the first time, Germany’s national women’s volleyball team is playing an international match in the state capital. The opponent on May 10th (7:30 p.m.) in the MBS Arena is Romania. The game serves as preparation for the Volleyball Nations League (VNL). At the tournament, the national team can secure a ticket for the Olympic Games in Paris (July 26th to August 11th). The German volleyball players will play the first of twelve group games in the Nations League against France on May 15th in Antalya, Turkey.

Romania is coached by former SC Potsdam coach Guillermo Naranjo Hernández. He is supported by Riccardo Boieri, who followed Hernández in Potsdam last year. The Romanian squad also includes Potsdam outside attacker Rodica Buterez. “They will challenge us and annoy us, it will definitely be an interesting game,” said German national coach Vital Heynen about the opponent.

Germany’s captain Lena Stigrot is already looking forward to the game in Potsdam. “The atmosphere is always great, I hope that we can fill the hall and prepare and get in the mood perfectly for the most important VNL we have ever played,” said Stigrot, who plays for the Italian club Cuneo Granda San Bernardo.
