The two -time Olympic fencing champion at Sabers Olga Harlan believes that the adoption of Russian athletes to team competitions of Ukrainians is trying to force them to come to terms with the war in our territory and the presence of athletes of the country of aggressor in international tournaments. And our national team lacks the support of other countries.
In the comment of OBOZ.UA, Harlan said that some athletes from other countries do not know whether the war in our country continues, or it is over, because they receive very little information. And the International Fencing Federation (FIE), which for many years headed the Russian oligarch Usmanov and had a huge impact in the middle of the organization, despite all the recommendations of the IOC, returns to the competitions of the teams of the Russian Federation and, thus, presses the Ukrainians, forcing them to stop the opposite.
“What does the Russian sign mean in the teams? This means that we are forced to reconcile with the fact that in our country we are fighting in order to put up with the situation, to put up with the fact that for a long time – more than three years – a complete war has been going on, and for them it is a lot of time. No, ”says Olga.
The owner of the largest number of Olympic awards in the history of Ukraine notes that the reasons for such actions are a huge impact of the long -standing Russian president and his team.
“We all know that this is happening. Since Usmanov is the president of the International Fence Federation. And after his next elections last year, it was somehow clear.
“Unfortunately, we do not see great support from the fencing community, this is from fencing, from athletes,” Harlan admits.
According to Olga, some of her colleagues, as a rule, are very far from what is happening in Ukraine from the lack of information.
“Some athletes even ask me if everything ended in Ukraine? I answer: “No.” But the athletes themselves say that in their countries they already tell less about Ukraine, even in the news, they do not see this. And what is happening, they see only through our social networks, ”said Harlan.
